The Requirement
With military jet power increasing over the last 50 years, so did the demand for Jet Blast Deflector Panels. With the increase in production demands came an increase in problematic manufacturing and late deliverables. It became imperative for the Navy to find a reliable manufacturer that could provide certified products, that adhered to the Navy’s tight tolerances and delivery requirements. The largest challenge was product testing at the Naval Air Warfare Center in Lakehurst, NJ, where panels had to pass stringent tests for military operations as well as meet critical delivery deadlines.
The Solution
Committed to the Navy’s success, Laser Manufacturing invested in best-of-breed technology to ensure the highest equipment standards and eliminate any potential problematic variables in the design and production processes. The team at Laser researched and designed unique manufacturing methods that allowed production of a unique flat shape that not only adhered to the JBD length and width requirements but also withstood performance and repeatability testing. Finally, strict measures were taken to streamline manufacturing flow and continually assess every stage of production to guarantee on time delivery. Alongside their state of the art capabilities, Laser’s commitment to perfection and customer satisfaction led the way to their creative problem solving solution for the US Navy.
The Result
Not only did Laser provide the Navy with parts at a quality standard that has not been met in fifty years, they surpassed previous suppliers with an increase in production over 200%. Laser Manufacturing by Fathom is now one of the US Navy’s approved sources for Jet Blast Deflectors delivering over 5,000 total units. Pleased with the great success of this project and the assurance their product demands can be reliably met, the Navy has been allowed to focus on other critical needs. Based on the success of this project, Laser has been trusted with additional highly critical projects.
From project inception to final delivery, documented procedures are in place to control purchasing, non-conforming products, handling, storage, packaging, preservation and delivery.

Laser Manufacturing is located in Pflugerville, Texas but services all the following local areas: Round Rock, Austin, College Station, San Antonio, Houston, Killeen, Temple, Waco, San Marcos, New Braunfels, Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington and more. Additional areas can receive drop shipped parts or be served by other Fathom facilities that span the entire United States across the areas of additive, CNC machining, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication and over 25 different manufacturing processes.

In 1991, with only one CNC machine financed through an SBA loan, Laser began operating out of a 1,700 square foot building, serving their only client at the time, The 3M Company. Within three years, Laser relocated to a 3,800 square foot building adding two additional CNC milling centers and one turning center to their capabilities.
Less than a decade later, Laser built their current facility of over 10,000 square feet to accommodate expanding service needs and facilitate a 24hr/day operation. Now with one of the most modern high precision manufacturing facilities in the country, Laser strives to be on the industry’s leading edge.
