Exoskin—On-Body 3D Printing

Autodesk Research and Carnegie Mellon University have created ExoSkin, a hybrid fabrication system for designing and 3D printing directly on the body, which utilizes a custom built fabrication machine designed specifically for on-body printing. The Tactum System is also capable of recognizing what the research team calls “loose input” and can transform it into precise geometries / / Read More / / Watch Full Video

3D Printed Electric Motorcycle from APWorks

A leading aerospace manufacturer has created 3D printed electric motorbike which weighs in at about 77 lbs and is about 30% lighter than competitors in the market. The Light Rider is capable of going from 0 to 60 miles per hour in seconds / / Read More / / Watch Full Video

Researchers Create High Temperature-Resistant Heating Element Through 3D Printing

A research team at University of Maryland is attempting to create a high-heat resistant heating element formed by a 3D printer. According to a project source, when electrical current is applied to this heater, it can generate high temperatures (~3,000 K) with exceptionally fast rate (in less than 100 millisecond, an estimated heating rate ~20,000 K/s) and superior stability (>2,000 cycles, with continuous high temperature lasting for more than a day without noticeable decay) / / Read More // Watch Full Video

High-Speed 3D Stem Cell Printing

Nano Dimension, an Israeli company known for its 3D printed circuit board technology, has successfully lab-tested a 3D bioprinter for stem cells, a large step towards being able to print large tissues and organs. Nano Dimension conducted a first trial with Israeli biotech firm Accellta Ltd, showing that the adapted printer could make large volumes of high resolution cells quickly / / Read More

Dubai Inaugurates First 3D Printed Office Building, Constructed in 17 Days

Dubai is the center of the United Arab Emirates larger 3D printing strategy, an initiative which focuses on three main sectors: construction, medical products and consumer products. The new office building, including all interior furniture, detailing and structural components, was fabricated using a 3D printer measuring 20 feet high, 120 feet long and 40 feet wide // Read More

3D Scanning and 3D Printing Extend Life of Historic Places

The combination of 3D scanning and 3D printing have enabled archaeologists to restore vital parts of the worlds fragile history. By integrating this technology into the field of archaeology, researchers have been able to recreate monuments and historic locations, including Syria’s Temple of Bel, which was recently destroyed by the terrorist group ISIS. Oakland-based nonprofit group CyArk is dedicated to documenting the worlds treasures and making them available to all // Read More // CyArk Website

3D Bioprinted Placenta Model May Lead to Treatment for Leading Cause of Maternal Death

Preeclampsia is the leading cause of death from pregnancy, occurring in about 5% of pregnancies worldwide. A team of researchers assembled at the University of Maryland created a 3D bioprinted placenta model and successfully used it to develop new life-saving treatments for preeclampsia // Read More
