Our Story

Although the Fathom name is relatively young, it represents a portfolio of companies that have a rich history of manufacturing innovation. Many of the companies we’ve acquired have been in business for 40 years or more and employ team members with decades of expertise.

Together, we represent over 25 technologies, which enable our customers to meet many of their needs with a single supplier. Here’s how we got to where we are today – a comprehensive supplier of advanced manufacturing to some of the world’s best and most innovative companies:

1969 // Dahlquist Machine is founded in Ham Lake, MN, offering expertise in metal and plastic turning.

1970 // Newcut is founded in Newark, NY, making it one of the pioneers of photo chemical etching

1979 // Majestic Metals is founded in Denver, CO with a focus on precision sheet metal forming

1979 // Centex Machining is founded in Round Rock, TX, with a focus on CNC machining and welding

1984 // Midwest Composite Technologies (MCT) is founded in Waukesha, WI and becomes one of the pioneers of 3D printing

2001 // Incodema is founded in Ithaca NY to provide precision CNC machining services

2003 // ICOMold is founded in Holland, OH to provide domestic and international injection molding services

2008 // Fathom is founded in Oakland, CA with a focus on additive manufacturing

2019 // MCT Acquires Fathom and ICOMold

2020 // Dahlquist Machine and Majestic Metals are acquired by Incodema Holdings

2020 // Fathom Acquires GPI in Lake Bluff, IL, which is focused on DMLS metal additive manufacturing

2020 // GPI, Fathom, ICOMold and MCT are merged to form Fathom Digital Manufacturing

2020 // CORE Industrial Partners Acquires Incodema and Newcut; they’re added to the Fathom portfolio

2021 // Fathom merges with Altimar Acquisition Corporation and goes public on the NYSE

2022 // Centex Machining is acquired by Fathom

2024 // CORE Industrial Partners completes the take-private acquisition of Fathom.
